Lucien (Jim) Boucher
Private Lucien (Jim) Boucher was a Métis World War II Veteran born on November 24, 1922, near St. Louis, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in Regina on January 5, 1943, and volunteered for active overseas duty as a Bren-gunner with the Seaforth Highlanders (Seaforth Islanders). Deployed to Continental Europe, Private Boucher saw heavy action on the front lines in Northern Italy along the Lamone River, serving six months in the Italian Campaign (including three months on the front line). He subsequently served in Holland until the end of World War II. Following his military service, he returned to Saskatchewan, where he lived until his passing on April 8, 2021. He was directly presented with his Recognition Payment by Métis Nation leadership at Central Haven Special Care Home in Saskatoon in November, 2019.
