Lawrence (Laurent) Bellerose

Trooper (Lance Corporal) Lawrence (Laurent) Bellerose (M-65663) was a Métis World War II Veteran born on March 14, 1920. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1941, serving with the 13A District Depot during World War II. Over the course of five years of active service spanning 1941 to 1946, he was deployed across Canada, the United Kingdom, and Continental Europe. Following the conclusion of World War II, Trooper Bellerose was honorably discharged in 1946. On September 7, 1956, he married Freda Bellerose, with whom he built his life until his passing on May 9, 2000, at the age of 80. His dedicated wartime service and Métis heritage were formally recognized by the Métis Nation and the Métis Veterans Legacy Program through a recognition presentation to his surviving spouse in Edmonton, Alberta.
