James Vernon Boyce
Private (Lance Corporal) James Vernon Boyce (H-57828) was a Métis World War II Veteran born on December 26, 1918, in Libau, Manitoba. He enlisted in the Canadian Army (Active) on September 4, 1940, serving with distinction throughout World War II. Deployed overseas for the majority of the conflict, he fought across Continental Europe in Italy, France, and Germany as part of Allied operations. Following the end of the war, Private Boyce was honorably discharged at No. 10 District Depot in Winnipeg on September 5, 1945. For his courageous service, he was decorated with the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal (CVSM) and Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-45. After his wartime service, he served in the Army Reserve, trained as a mechanic, and built his life in Manitoba alongside his wife, Doris Beatrice Boyce (née Franks), whom he married on May 2, 1941. Private Boyce passed away on July 25, 1989, at Deer Lodge in Winnipeg at the age of 70.
