Alyce Marie Bradshaw (née Ryley)

Private Alyce Marie Bradshaw (née Ryley, W-130369) was a Métis World War II Veteran born in Edmonton, Alberta, on January 9, 1926. Upon graduating high school, she enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps (CWAC) on January 22, 1944, following three of her siblings who were already serving overseas in Europe. After completing basic training in Vermilion, Alberta, Private Bradshaw was stationed in Ottawa and Montreal, where she carried out vital service with the Army Postal Corps handling high volumes of military mail between Canada and Continental Europe. She served in Canada until her honorable discharge on October 2, 1945, and was awarded the War Medal 1939–1945. Following the war, she raised her family in Alberta and Saskatchewan and lived in Calgary until her passing on February 28, 2021. She was formally recognized with a Recognition Payment presentation on August 27, 2020.
